Jahangirnagar Theatre stages Doshora August
Cultural Correspondence
Jahangirnagar Shankskritik Jote, a cultural organisation of Jahangirnagar University (JU), had arranged a three-day-long programme starting from August 2-4. Doshora August, a production of Jahangirnagar Theatre, was staged on August 3 at Muktomoncho as a part of the event. August 2, 1999, is a major milestone for the students of Jahangirnagar University who chased the evildoers from the campus. The plot of the play revolves around this true event. Playwright Rajon Nandi was one of the organisers of the movement, which gives the play an authentic touch. The play has been written from a contemporary perspective. Debashis Bishwas, the director of the play, presented the play in the form of Bangla Loko Nattyo, an indigenous genre of Bangla theatre. The performers symbolised the hall room, TV room, tea stall, vice-chancellor's office in accordance with the sequences by using their body and scarf. Light design by Probal was simple yet effective. Shupti, Amin, Ershad, Shahed, Sajal, Tonny, Rajib, Masum, Rocky, Jolly, Sohel, Sumon and Chitra gave good performances. The music composition complemented the play's theme. However the choreography needs to be improved.
