UK envoy meets Hasina

British High Commissioner Anwar Choudhury yesterday called on Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina at the latter's residence in the city.

After over half an hour meeting with Hasina, the British envoy, who also holds the European Union's chair in Bangladesh, told reporters that they discussed issues of mutual interests.

"We had a very constructive, positive and meaningful discussion," he said, but declined to elaborate.

Later, Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil told newsmen that the British High Commissioner made a courtesy call on Sheikh Hasina and there was no discussion on the current political situation in Bangladesh.

AL leaders Kazi Zafarullah, Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Syed Abul Hossain were present at the meeting.
