Onkar on silver screen


The shooting of Bangla, a film based on litterateur Ahmed Chhofa's novel Onkar, will begin from Saturday next. Veteran litterateur Sardar Fazlul Karim gave a formal announcement to this effect at a press conference held at Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts Sunday last. Directed by Shahidul Islam Khokon, the film features popular actors Humayun Fareedi, Mahfuz Ahmed and Shabnur.

In the programme Sardar Fazlul Karim said, "Making a film based on Onkar of Ahmed Chhofa is creditable. Through this film Ahmed Chhofa will be re-introduced to the new generation. This film has the potential to be a milestone for Bangladeshi films."

Among others, managing director of Impress Telefilm, Faridur Reza Sagar, filmmakers Chashi Nazrul Islam, Muhammad Hannan, Sohanur Rahman Sohan, Nargis Akhtar, actress Kabori Sarwar, singers Fatema Tuz Zohra, Samina Chowdhury, actors Afzal Hossain and Mahfuz Ahmed, producer of the film, Sharif Ahmed Tutul, Dewan Habib, Rezanur Rahman, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, editor of Manabjamin, were present at the star studded programme.

The movie is set against the backdrop of the events from 1947 to 1969. The script, dialogue and songs are written by Gulam Mustafa Shimul.

The director Shahidul Islam Khokon is hopeful about completing the shooting by end September. The film is to be released next Victory Day.
