Blasts rock dists


More than a hundred people were injured in yesterday's series of bomb blasts in major cities and 63 district towns across the country.

Bogra: Seven bombs went off at different places, including in front of Judge Court, DC office and SP Office, leaving two people injured. Police arrested five people including a madrasa teachers for their alleged involvement in the attack.

Mymensingh: At least 10 bombs exploded at nine points of the town, injuring 15 people. Of them, eight were wounded seriously.

Pabna: Four bombs exploded on the Judge Court and DC office premises in the town, injuring three people.

A few leaflets in Bengali and Arabic languages were found at blast sites in which Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh called for establishing Islamic rule in Bangladesh.

Rangpur: Eight bombs exploded or were recovered live in the town. No one was injured.

The bombs went off simultaneously near Press Club, DC office, Judge Court, bus terminal, Satmatha, Brac office and Modern crossing.

Police arrested one suspect, Rezaul Karim, from Rangpur Bus Terminal.

Jessore: Bombs went off at six places of the town, leaving three people -- two freedom fighters and a police constable -- injured. Police arrested 12 suspects and recovered four unexploded bombs from different parts of the town.

Tangail: Eight bombs went off in different areas of the district town and Madhupur, Mirzapur and Ghatail upazilas, leaving one person injured. Police recovered two unexploded bombs from the District Judge Court premises.

Noakhali: Four bombs exploded near the Collectorate Bhaban, Press Club, Old Bus Stand and Jam-e-Mosque, leaving three pedestrians injured.

The injured are Anwar Hossain, 40, Lutfunnahar Lata and her husband Sohel, 32. The condition of Anwar, who received 20 splinters in his legs, was stated to be critical.

Police arrested three suspects, Ibrahim, 20, Humayun, 35, and Nurul Alam, 35, and recovered bomb-making materials from their possessions.

Dinajpur: Ten bombs went off at nine key points of the district town, leaving two people injured. They are Raj, 26, and Ishaque, 38.

The bombs exploded near Collectorate Bhaban, District Judge Court, Zilla School, Eye Hospital, Hospital crossing, Baluadanga crossing and bus terminal.

Comilla: Nine bombs exploded neat the Judge Court, DC office, Press Club, cantonment and Shashangachha bus terminal, injuring several people. Police recovered leaflets of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh from the blast spots.

Narayanganj: Five people, including two female college students, were injured as seven bombs exploded in the town. Police arrested one suspect.

Gazipur: Eight bombs went off on the DC office and court premises, and on the National University campus. An 11-year-old girl, Selina Aktar, was seriously injured.

Gopalganj: Five bombs exploded near the DC office, Collectorate Building, Bangabandhu Government College and Sadar Hospital in the town.

Police recovered an unexploded bomb from the Collectorate Building compound.

Manikganj: Seven bombs went off near DC office, Judge Court, Press Club, bus stand and the Sadar Hospital gate in the town. No one was injured.

Kushtia: Five bombs exploded in the DC office and Islamic University areas. Police arrested one Shamshul Alam after the blasts.

Patuakhali: Six bombs exploded at three points of the town. Police recovered four unexploded bombs. Two people, including a 12-year-old hawker, were injured.

Natore: Seven bombs went off at four points in the district town, injuring 20 people including a police sergeant. The seriously injured are -- sergeant Abdul Halim, Kalam, Bakul, Milon, Mantu Pramanik, Akkas, Nurul ISlam, Liton and Mokbul.

The bombs exploded on the Judge Court compound, and at Madrasa crossing, Old Bus Stand and Railway Station.

Naogaon: Seven bombs went off in the town but no injuries were reported. Two of the bombs exploded on the Judge Court premises, two on the DC office premises and one each at Gostahati, Baludanga crossing and near Bijon Bridge.

Police arrested Shahidul Islam, 35, of Miapara in Sapahar upazila from the court premises when he was informing someone on mobile that the operation was successful.

Sirajganj: Seven bombs went off near the DC office, on the Judge Court compound, and in bazaar and station areas in the town, injuring five people injured.

Police picked up 10 people from the blast scenes.

Nilphamari: Two people were critically injured as three bombs exploded at Nilphamari Bazaar and on the DC Office and Judge Court premises.

Seven unexploded bombs were recovered from the blast sites that also include Post Office crossing, Madha Ghosh intersection and AG Office.

Gaibandha: Seven people were injured in bomb blasts on the premises of Judge Court and DC office, at railway station, bus terminal and Municipal Park.

Of the injured, Shah Abdul Gaffar, 45, Haider Ali, 60, and Aminul Islam,10, were hospitalised. Police recovered four unexploded bombs.

Kurigram: Six bombs went off at different places in the town. No one was hurt.

Habiganj: Six bombs exploded in and around different government offices and court buildings in the town but no injury was reported.

The bombs went off at Judge Court building, Bar Library, Municipal Market and Muktijoddha Smrity Soudha, causing panic in the town.

Magura: Five time bombs were exploded on the premises of Judge Court and DC office, and near Sadar Police Station at around 11:30am. Police retrieved two unexploded bombs from the DC office premises.

Pirojpur: Seven bombs exploded on the premises of Collectorate Bhaban and Sadar Upazila Parishad, and at new Market, Pourasabha, Kalibari and Rajarhat in the town. Three people were injured in the blasts.

Barguna: Seven bombs exploded at six places -- court compound, Press Club, DC office, Bangabandhu Smrity Parishad office, Town Bridge and Baro Bridge -- in the town. Four people were injured in the blasts.

Jhalakati: Four bombs went off on the DC office compound and court area, leaving eight people injured. One unexploded bomb was recovered from the DC office.

Bandarban: Seven bombs went off at different parts of the town, leaving two people including a five-year old girl injured. Police arrested six people including one Imam in this connection.

Lalmonirhat: Six bombs went off in different areas of the town, leaving one person injured. Police recovered one unexploded bomb from a stair of the DC Office.

Rangamati: Four bombs went off at different places in the town, leaving a minor boy injured. A live bomb was recovered from a dustbin.

Laxmipur: Six bombs exploded at different places of the town, including in front of Judge Court, DC Office and UNO Office and Pourasabha, leaving one person injured.

Jamalpur, Seven bombs exploded near the Judge Court, DC office, railway station, police station, Shaheed Minar and Bakultala in the town. No one was injured.

Joypurhat: Ten bombs went off near the Judge Court, DC office, bus terminal and Arafat Market in the town, injuring three rickshawpullers -- Atwar Hossain, 23, Sultan, 41, and Majnu, 25. The victims are suspected to be carriers of the bombs.

Police recovered three live bombs and some leaflets, and picked up four suspects.

Thakurgaon: Five bombs exploded near Judge Court, Woman and Child Repression Court, Chaurasta and Magistrate's Court, leaving two people injured.

The injured are Fazle Alam, 28, a peon of court, and Halima, 30.

Feni: One bomb exploded in front of Bara Masjid in the town and another unexploded one was recovered from in front of municipality building.

Rajbari: Six bombs exploded near DC office, Town Maktab Government Primary School, railway station and railway ground.

Sherpur: Six bombs went off in the DC office, Judge Court, New Market, new bus terminal and Nouhata areas. Police recovered an unexploded bomb and 30-40 leaflets of Jama'atul Mujahideen from near the ADM Court.

Narsingdi: Five bombs went off near the DC office, Police Lines, District Jail, Narsingdi Government College and main bus terminal, injuring at least 10 people.

The injured are Janufa Akhter, 22, Kohinur Begum, 25, Nure Alam 25, Aminul Islam, 24, Anwara Begum, 24, Aminul Haq, 30, Amir Hossain, 30, Joynal Abedin, 30, Haru Mia, 40, and an unidentified man.

Chandpur: Ten 10 people were injured, two critically, in six bomb blasts in the Collectorate Bhaban, Judge Court, Bar Library, Press Club and railway station areas.

Two people, Joynal Abedin, 55, and Shamsul Haq, 42, were injured critically.

Khagrachhari: Four bombs exploded at Collectorate Bhaban, Judge Court and Shapla Chattar, injuring four people - Joynab Bibi, Amir Ali, Hangsaj Chakma and Abu Munnaf.

Munnaf, 35, was taken into custody as the police consider him a suspect.

Brahmanbaria: Four people were injured as seven bombs exploded at different places in the district town.

Meherpur: Seven bombs went off on the premises of DC office and Judge Court.

Chuadanga: Two bombs exploded near the DC office in the town.

Jahangirnagar University

A bomb exploded on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in front of university's main gate. Another bomb went off at Nabinagar bus stand in Savar. No one was injured.
