Non-govt teachers, staffs demand salary hike

Bangladesh Shikhhak-Karmochari Oikya Parishad, an organisation of non-government teachers and employees, yesterday demanded increased salary, house rent and medical allowance for them.

Addressing a press conference in the city, parishad leaders said if the government does not fulfil their demands they will stage a rally at Muktangon and submit a memorandum to the education minister to realise their demands.

Besides, rallies and processions will be organised in Mymensingh, Barisal, Comilla, Noakhali, Chittagong, Faridpur, Jessore, Bogra and Dinajpur from September 11 to October 02 to press their demands.

President of Bangladesh Shikhhak Samity Principal AA Awal Siddiquee said the government has decided to introduce an integrated education system at the secondary level without any discussion with any teachers' organisation.

He suggested discussions with intellectuals, guardians, and different teachers' organisations concerning the new system.

Dr M Akhtaruzzaman, Pradip Chakrabarti, Principal Shahjahan Alam Saju, Chowdhury Khurshid Alam, Abu Bakar Siddique, Prof MA Bari, and Md Jahir Uddin also spoke.
