General Electric Co plans to enter Japan's banking market as early as next year, the head of the company's Tokyo unit said Friday.

The diversified US manufacturer and financial house plans to offer financial services for the retail market by setting up in Japan a branch office of one of its overseas banks, said Yoshiaki Fujimori, chairman of GE's Japan office.
