A group of JCD cadres led by Zafor and Zia beat up Mohammad Kamal Uddin, an MSS student of History and resident of room no 414, during an altercation, sources said.

Hall unit President Atiquzzaman Ripon told The Daily Star that they would take organisational action against the attackers.

Meanwhile, at least 50 JCD activists deprived of getting suitable posts at different hall unit committees roamed on the campus yesterday.

They said many of them who have got the posts in new committees had criminal records.

"Even Shafiul Bashar Badal who were ousted from the hall and beaten up by the Chhatra Dal leaders for mugging ATM card, cash and cell phone from a captain a few months ago has been given posts," said one activists asking anonymity.

The deprived activists said they would bring out procession and hold rally tomorrow.

Tension is running high on the campus.

A group of JCD activists at Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall roamed in front of the hall till midnight creating panic among the students.

A party insider said some JCD leaders at Zia Hall have brought firearms in apprehension of gunfight between the rivals.

JCD General Secretary Shafiul Bari Babu said they are keeping close watch to avoid any untoward incidents.
