Two injured in city slum blasts

At least two people were injured in an explosion when a criminal was making bombs at a city slum at Shyampur yesterday.

Police arrested injured Mohammad Manik and sent him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment in a critical condition as his hands, face, head and chest were hit by splinters.

Police said Manik is a listed criminal and was arrested a few months ago in a robbery case. Manik told the police that he forced the owner to allow him to work in the room at about 3:30pm.

Neighbours informed the police after a bomb exploded with a bang at a room of the slum behind the Dhaka Match Factory. They told the police that the owner of the room was taken to a private hospital before they (police) came there.

Police recovered some materials from the spot used to make bombs.
