AL men march to mourn Bangabandhu

Awami League (AL) yesterday brought out a huge mourning procession in the capital as part of their month-long programmes to mark the 30th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.Bearing banners, festoons, and placards and chanting slogans, thousands of party leaders and activists joined the procession that started from Suhrawardy Udyan and ended through placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi. Prior to the procession the Dhaka city unit AL also held a rally that the central leaders addressed. The BNP-led coalition government is trying to make the country a communal state by destroying the spirit of the Liberation War, the speakers said. The forces of evil killed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but they could not kill the ideal of Bangabandhu as he is immortal to all progressives, AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil said. The government is turning the country into a terrorist state, Mohammad Hanif said, adding that the August 17 countrywide bomb blasts occurred with the direct patronisation of the government. He urged the countrymen to be united to oust the government to establish a government of the people. Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzaq MP, Tofail Ahmed, Sajeda Chowdhury, Motia Chowdhury, Obaidul Kader, Suranjit Sengupta, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Rahmatullah Chowdhury also spoke at the rally.
