Kolkata Port proposes new trade route with Bangladesh

The Kolkata Port Trust has proposed the central government for establishing an inland water route from Kolkata to Narayanganj in Bangladesh, according to a PTI report.The proposal was made in view of the burgeoning trade and congestion at Petrapole land border. "There is a need for a new trade route between the two countries. We, therefore, have proposed the centre if the existing inland water route between Kolkata dock and Narayanganj can be established," KoPT Chairman AK Chanda told reporters in West Bengal capital on Saturday. The port authorities, he said, raised the issue at a recent meeting with the representatives of the Union Commerce Ministry.
