Madrassah education

The bomb explosions on 17 August throughout the country have had a serious impact, as the whole nation is stunned by the heinous acts. The police have taken many people into custody and there are some renowned moulanas, including the former director of the Islamic Foundation, among those arrested.

We know that there are many madrassahs all over Bangladesh known as Quomi madrassahs which have no registration with the Madrassah Board. Such madrassahs are found even in the remotest corners of rural areas and most of them are run by people not qualified enough to impart religious education. They can only mislead students.

So the government should take immediate steps to merge these madrassahs with Aliya madrassahs and retain the same curriculum and syllabus for the students who want to obtain higher education in Islam. Then gradually those Quomi madrassahs should be abolished for ever.
