Warne has high hopes for Hants

Australian Shane Warne has set his sights high for Hampshire after leading them to a runners-up finish in county championship Division One.

Warne believes a clean sweep of four major trophies is possible if they can maintain this summer's improvement.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed the last two years and we're not far off going all the way in all the competitions.

"A clean sweep is a realistic dream in the coming years," said Warne, who is committed to the club until 2007.

"If we can keep this side together and the boys continue to play the way they have -- and a couple of our young players start to make some runs -- we'll be as good as anyone around."

Hampshire beat champions Notts in three days in their final game and finished just two and a half points behind them.

Team manager Paul Terry shares Warne's confidence about their progress since winning promotion from Division Two only 12 months ago.

"We are moving in the right direction -- two seconds in two seasons. We hope we can go that one place better next year.

"We have not won the Cham-pionship for more than 30 years and it is something we really want to do," said Terry.

He had no complaints about the outcome of the title race, despite Warne's recent complaints about the outcome of Nottinghamshire's penultimate match in which Kent tried to chase a target of 420 in 70 overs and lost by 214 runs.

"Don't take anything away from Notts -- they have played some very good cricket and they are worthy winners.

"Over the season, there are lots of ifs and buts about the way it turned out, but they deserve their success," Terry added.
