China firm to set up gas meter plant in Bangladesh

The government has given the nod to a proposal of a Chinese company to set up a gas meter plant in Bangladesh, official sources said.

The Beijing Jinchuang Combined Gas Meter Co Ltd on September 14 submitted a proposal to the Board of Investment (BoI) to set up a gas meter plant to manufacture meters for industrial and domestic use.

"We have given them a positive reply," Mahmudur Rahman, adviser to the Ministry of Energy and executive chairman of the BoI, told the news agency.

"It will be better for our country if the company manufactures meters for industry and domestic use," he said.

Currently, an electric meter plant is being set up under the supervision of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
