Children’s Meena Mela opens in B'baria

A three-day Meena Mela for children began at the Primary Training Institute (PTI) ground here yesterday.State Minister for Land Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan inaugurated the Mela, also attended by Deputy Commissioner Md Sayedur Rahman, Police Superintendent ATM Tareque, ADC (general) Mia Abdullah Mamun, ADC (Education and Development) Faykuzzan Chowdhury, officials, teachers, journalists and elite of the town. Two school students--Ashique and Tonima also addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of participating children. Over 500 children attended the opening ceremony. Ten stalls have been opened at the Mela. Besides display on various educative subjects, the three-day Mela will include competition on Chhara Gan (rhymes), folk song and presentation of drama, songs, dance and over cultural events. Students from about 50 primary and high schools will participate in the programmes. Shisu Nallyam, a children's organisation, presented a cultural programme after the inaugural session yesterday. The Meena Mela has been organised jointly by the district information office, primary education office and Shishu Academy with assistance from UNICEF.
