JU English Week ends today

A weeklong cultural programme titled 'English Week-2005', organised by the English department of Jahangirnagar University (JU), ends on the campus today.

Today's programme includes a session of Baul songs and a concert.

A session of film show, grand cultural show, fashion show and a prize giving ceremony were held yesterday.

The Daily Star is the media partner of the programme.

"We must work to realise the dreams of the freedom fighters," said Air Vice-Marshal (Retd.) AK Khandaker as the chief guest at the prize giving ceremony at the seminar room.

"You are at the beautiful moment of the life and the world is in your hand. You can change it and without wasting any time, we must think how can we contribute to the progress of the country," said Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star.

Prof Shafi Ahmad, Jonathan Cebra, director of the American Centre, and Dr M Maniruzzaman, chairman of the department, were also present.

The cultural programme began with a colourful rally on September 23. Vice-Chancellor Prof Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman inaugurated the event.

The programmes included essay competition, indoor games competition, film show, recitation competition, exhibition of wall magazine and discussions.
