Us Interference
AL trashes PTI report on Hasina's remark

Awami League (AL) yesterday outright denounced an Indian news agency report quoting opposition leader Sheikh Hasina as having said that once India, Pakistan and Bangladesh shed all their differences and come together they could effectively prevent the US from dictating policies of developing countries.

AL general Secretary Abdul Jalil yesterday in a press release said the Hasina's statement published in different newspapers quoting PTI news was not true. The secretary said he talked with the AL Chief, who is visiting Delhi, over telephone on the issue.

"The opposition leader, in an outright language, said she did not make any comments whatsoever against US or any other country's "aggression" or "interference" to the press" Jalil said.

"The report is devoid of any truth and is baseless," he said, adding, "Her remarks were strictly related to regional cooperation, peace and development."

The opposition leader cooperation in South Asia can be fruitful if Bangladesh, India and Pakistan work together and jointly for poverty alleviation, Jalil added.

Meantime, UNB said Saber Hossain Chowdhury, the political secretary to the opposition leader, told the news agency over telephone that, "We suspect that there might have been some foul play and a deliberate attempt to manipulate her remarks," Saber said, adding, "We've taken it up seriously and we're investigating it."

On Friday, PTI from Ajmer reported that Bangladesh's opposition leader Sheikh Hasina called for unity among India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to check the increasing "interference of America" in the internal affairs of the developing nations.
