Tata Investment
Final round talks from today
Unb, Dhaka
The final round of negotiation between the government and the Tata Group on the proposed $ 2.5 billion investment in Bangladesh begins today. As per the proposal, the Tata Group will set up a fertiliser factory, a steel plant and a 1000-megawatt coal-fired power plant in the country. The development and operation of a coal mine is also included in their investment plan. A 20-member Tata team, led by Alan Rosling, managing director of Tata Sons, is now in Dhaka to sit with the government. Communications Secretary Shafiqul Islam will lead the Bangladesh side in the negotiation meeting scheduled to take place at the communications ministry. Sources in the Board of Investment (BoI) said this will be the final round of negotiation which is likely to stagger for nearly a month to arrive at a decision on Tata's proposed investment in Bangladesh.
