Robbery in City
Cash, valuables worth Tk 3.7 lakh looted


A gang of robbers looted money, gold ornaments and other valuables totalling Tk 3.7 lakh from a house at Hazaribagh in the city on Friday night.

Some 12 robbers entered a flat on the first floor of the house at Sanatangarh at around 9:30pm after pressing the calling bell and looted 26 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk one lakh at gunpoint, family sources said.

Ansar Ali, the tenant of the flat and a businessman, filed a case with Hazaribagh police.

In another incident, a mob caught and beat up an alleged robber on Friday night after a gang stabbed a businessman in his house at Kabi Jasimuddin Road in Motijheel during a robbery.

The injured businessman, Abdur Rob, 38, and the alleged robber, Mohammad Masum, 25, are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Rob said the gang of eight robbers broke into his house at about 8:30pm and looted Tk 5,000, a gold chain and a ring and a mobile phone set.

As the gang was running away after the robbery, Rob along with local people managed to caught hold of Masum, but the others escaped.

Later, police rescued Masum from the wrath of the mob.
