Police action on SUST students condemned

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has condemned the police action on agitating students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) demanding arrest and punishment to a landlord who made an alleged attempt to rape a female student at his house in Sylhet city.

Around 30 students and teachers were injured in the attack.

The parishad in a statement said rape of female student and agitation by general students demanding justice to the rapist had occurred earlier at Shahjalal university.

But the vice-chancellor failed to meet out justice and instead subjected the protestors to unnecessary harassment, it added.

The parishad expressed the view that lack of proper investigation and punishment to culprits in earlier incidents led to the present situation.

It urged the university authorities to investigate the incident and mete out justice.
