Eviction of 76 Families
Official probe body visits Baradal

A one-member team visited Baradal village in Parbatipur on Thursday to probe the alleged eviction of 76 minority community landless families from their homes on June 22.

Syed Hasinur Rahman, Secretary of Land Ministry (Development), arrived at Baradal village at around 1 pm and stayed there for about one and a half hours.

He was accompanied by Parbatipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ABM Sharifullah and local Union Parishad chairman Shamsuddin Mondal.

It was reported earlier that they were evicted from their homes for construction of a complex to rehabilitate landless people. But the evictees alleged that their homesteads were deliberately chosen for the project while there were more government lands in the area for that. They also alleged that the local UP chairman had a hand in their eviction.

The probe team talked to the evicted people including Kalipada, Bisamonee Hemron, Bimol Roy, Rabin Kismu, Mrinal, Champa Roy, Noren Maddy. They narrated how they were evicted and their houses looted. They told the team that they want to live in their ancestral homes.

They also alleged that most of the VGF cards allocated for them were misappropriated by local body leaders.
