Money Theft
Two Savar cops closed, OC, SP summoned

On charges of embezzlement of money of a company, two police sub-inspectors (SIs) were suspended and closed to the police headquarters yesterday.

They are SI Ibrahim of Savar Police Station and SI Aminul Islam of Ashulia police box.

Meanwhile, the police headquarters also summoned assistant police superintendent (Savar Circle) and the officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Police Station.

Police sources said Savar police on Saturday detained two people, accusing them of being `hundi' traders. The cops also seized a jeep and said they recovered Tk 58 lakh from the traders.

But the money belongs to a business group, Uttara Trading, and the amount was Tk 2.38 crore.

Owner of the Uttara Trading contacted the home ministry and senior police officials and informed them of the matter.

Following pressure from the high-ups, the policemen had to return TK 2.33crore. But, the remaining amount of Tk 5 lakh could not be traced.
