All cops of Savar police station withdrawn

All police officers and constables of Savar Police Station have been withdrawn in the wake of the money scandal of Uttara Group, a leading business enterprise.The police headquarters withdrew 90 police personnel following allegation that some cops of the police station tried to pocket Tk 1.8 crore of the Uttara Group. On October 8, Savar police seized Tk 2.38 crore from a Dhaka-bound car in Ashulia. Contacted, an officer seeking anonymity told the news agency they are yet to receive the order, but they have heard of it. The withdrawn police personnel include 17 sub-inspectors (SIs), 14 ASIs, one subedar, one nayek, one havilder and 47 constables. Earlier, three officials including the officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station were suspended. On October 8, local police camp in-charge SI Aminul and SI Ibrahim of Savar police halted a car of the Uttara Group at Ashulia Toll Plaza. They arrested an official and the car driver on suspicion that they were hundi traders. The police also allegedly seized Tk 2.38 crore from the car. However, the police claimed they seized only Tk 58 lakh. But Tk 1.75 crore was recovered after a close-door meeting of senior police officials at the police station.
