Price Hike of Admission Forms
JU students threaten strike

Leaders of Progotisheel Chhatra Jote (PSJ) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) at a press conference at JU yesterday threatened to enforce student strike on campus after Eid-vacation if the authorities do not withdraw the increased price of admission forms by this period.

They presented a data where they showed that Tk 70/100 is required to complete the process of admission test for each student, so even Tk 250 is a higher rate in this sense. But the university authorities further increased the rate by Tk 50 this year for 2005-2006 academic sessions.

Due to authorities' dilatoriness in resolving the problem, a number of coaching centers are making money by selling admission forms in a higher price ranging between Tk 400 and 500, the leaders alleged.

They urged the authorities to act in favor of student interest, otherwise they will enforce student strike after November 12, the date for resumption of classes after Eid-vacation.

The distribution of admission forms remained suspended since October 24 as the PSJ continued agitation till yesterday.

The authorities have not taken any step regarding the issue as yet.
