Hotel Purbani fined again for unhygienic condition


A mobile court yesterday fined Hotel Purbani of the city Tk 80,000 for not maintaining required hygiene standards. Another court had fined the hotel Tk 1 lakh last July for the same reason.

The mobile court led by Magistrate Tapan Kumar Biswas yesterday found the kitchen of the hotel very unhygienic and without any ventilation.

The court also found Kabab being prepared using coal which Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) does not permit.

The same court also fined Destiny Shopping Centre at Paltan area in the city Tk 80,000 for selling food and cosmetic products without the BSTI seal.

Meanwhile, 29 other mobile courts yesterday fined around Tk 6 lakh, filing as many as 180 cases, and sentencing 21 people to imprisonment to different terms for producing and selling sub-standard and unsafe food products in restaurants and shops, as well as irregularities in the transport services in different areas of the city.

A mobile court of the New Market area of the city sentenced the owner of Al-Amin restaurant at Nilkhet to two months' imprisonment for the unhygienic environment in his restaurant. Another mobile court of the Mirpur Police Station gave the same sentence against the owner of Hotel Noor for the same reason.

A mobile court at the city's Jurain area sentenced the owners of two restaurants, Hotel Asma and Hotel Comilla, to one month's imprisonment each for providing sub-standard and unsafe foods to the customers.
