PM urges people to help nab militants
Warns against killing people in the name of Islam

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has urged people to help catch the militants who are manufacturing bombs and killing people in the name of Islam.

"Don't give them shelter...One can't become martyr and cannot go to heaven by killing people," she told a public meeting at Hafiz Ibrahim College ground at Borhanuddin in Bhola yesterday.

The prime minister held the Islamist militants responsible for the recent bombings at places across the country.

Incidentally, the latest militant strike killed two judges in the neighbouring district of Jhalakati a few days back.

"Islamic laws cannot be established by killing people...Islam does not allow terrorism and killing," the prime minister said.

Presided over by BNP MP Hafiz Ibrahim, the meeting was also addressed by Water Resources Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Education Minister Osman Farruk, State Minister for Religious Affairs Mosharraf Hossain Shajahan, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Selima Rahman, Prime Minister Political Secretary Harris Chowdhury, Barisal City Mayor Mujibur Rahman Sarwar and Nazimuddin Alam MP.

At another public meeting at Daulatkhan Bazar ground, the prime minister urged people to help arrest the extremists, saying that these elements will have to face tough punishment.

"Those who killed judges, innocent people and want to attack police in the name of religion are enemies of Islam, enemies of the nation--they are terrorists," she told the meeting.

They have no faith in Islamic values and want to disturb peace and discipline in the country. The government will not spare anyone of them, she warned.

"People in Bangladesh are peace-loving, they do not believe in religious militancy," she said, adding that the BNP-led alliance government has ensured communal harmony and extended all-out cooperation to all religious communities in celebrating their religious festivals.

BLASTS OPPOSITION
The prime minister censured her political opponents for calling hartal and creating chaos on the streets instead of joining parliament.

"The opposition has perceived that they will not be able to assume power in future; they cannot even dream of it... They hold rally at Paltan, create chaos and damage vehicles," she said.

On the boycott of parliament by the Awami League, Khaleda said the opposition MPs are enjoying all privileges and travelling abroad on red passport. "Without coming to parliament, people's problems cannot be resolved," she said and urged them to come to parliament, shunning hartal and violence.

"They are letting loose chaos on the streets and calling hartals to obstruct the development works initiated by the BNP government," she said.

The prime minister alleged that the opposition is launching false campaign abroad that there is no communal harmony in Bangladesh. But, she said it is during the Awami League rule that Hindu temples were grabbed and women repressed.

She called for people's unity against all terrorist activities and conspiracies. She also urged all to work for advancing the process of peace, development and democracy.

Earlier, the prime minister unveiled the plaques of municipal buildings of Daulatkhan and Borhanuddin and laid the foundation stone of Banglabazar Growth Center. She also inaugurated the first phase of Daulatkhan town- protection embankment.
