11 die in road crashes

Eleven people were killed and 35 others injured in three road accidents in Sirajganj and Bogra yesterday.

Seven people were killed and 30 others injured, eight of them critically, at Chandikona Bazar in Sirajganj district yesterday evening, our Sirajganj correspondent reports.

A Bogra-bound bus from Dhaka collided head-on with another bus from the opposite direction at around 8:15pm, killing six people on the spot and injuring 30 others, police said, adding that another passenger, Sakhina, 40, died at the hospital.

The injured were taken to Sirajganj General Hospital and Mohammed Ali Hospital in Bogra.

Earlier a schoolboy was killed as a bus ran over him in Sirajganj.

Three more people were killed and five others injured as a bus and a private car collided at Gokul under Bogra district on the Bogra-Rangpur highway.

As the private car from Bogra reached Gokul, a bus from the opposite direction collided with it and the car driver, Md Shahin, died instantly, while two others -- both named Shamsul Islam -- one a student of Akbar Ali College and the other son of Mukhter Hossain from Jaypurhat, died later, witnesses said.

At least five people were injured in the incident.

Police sent the dead bodies to hospital for autopsy.
