Cabinet secretary Sadat's contract expires

Although Sadat Hussain's second contractual term as the cabinet secretary expired yesterday, the government did not nominate his successor until last night.A source from the Prime Minster's Office said the government is going to appoint someone to the post very shortly. The Secretariat was rife with rumours yesterday as to who is going to be the next cabinet secretary. A government source said Establishment Secretary ASM Abdul Halim, LGRD Secretary AHM Abul Qasem, and Planning Secretary Akhter Hossain are major contenders for the post. Among them, ASM Abdul Halim is the senior most candidate. Meantime, the government brought about some changes at secretary level yesterday. Rural development secretary Hedaytul Islam Chowdhury was transferred to the foreign ministry, while secretary to the president Solaiman Chowdhury replaced him. Kamaluddin Ahmed, director general of Department of Narcotics Control, was made the secretary to the president.
