Passengers go on rampage at ZIA as flight cancelled

Unruly passengers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines went on the rampage at Zia International Airport (ZIA) last night as the flight they were waiting for was cancelled.

The passengers, who were scheduled to fly to Riyadh at 9:00pm, attacked law enforcers, Biman officials and ZIA employees, and ransacked lounges. They claimed the authorities did not inform them about the cancellation.

Sources said there was no announcement of the flight cancellation and the passengers learned about it after making an enquiry.

The 273 passengers of the flight also staged demonstrations at ZIA, prompting the airport officials and employees to leave the place fearing fresh attacks.

The sources said only the police, who also came under attack, kept an eye on the passengers from safe distance.

Some passengers were injured during the two-hour-long action as police clubbed them to bring the situation under control.
