Awaiting a different V-Day

Four aeronautical engineers of Bangladesh Air Force now undergoing training in Karachi have planned to celebrate the Victory Day in a different way.

"We are not in a position to return home at the moment but we expect to celebrate our Victory Day with a lap of honour with the SAFF trophy on December 17," said Selim, Shahadat, Sohel and Shahjalal while watching Bangladesh's match against Bhutan on Thursday.

Studying at the Karachi School of Aeronautics, the four were very excited after their home team's 3-0 victory against Bhutan.

"We believe our boys will go all the way to the final and make the 34th Victory Day a memorable one for a deprived section like us in Karachi because the local high commission never invites us to national programmes," said Selim.

Bangladesh earned victory against the brutal Pakistani occupation force on December 16 in 1971 after a nine-month bloody war.

The final of the eight-team regional championship will take place at the People's Sports Complex Stadium in Karachi on December 17 and no doubt, a victory in Karachi would mean a lot for the Bangladesh football team in the month of pain and pleasure.
