Fight militancy unitedly
British envoy urges political parties

British Ambassador to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury yesterday said terrorism is a global phenomenon, but it is possible to combat it if all political parties work together.

He said the British support for Bangladesh will continue despite increasing terrorist activities.

He said this while he was addressing the concluding session of programmes of the Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC) marking the 57th World Human Rights Day at the Institution of Engineers in the city.

Secretary General of the commission Dr Saiful Islam Dildar presided over the meeting. Member of the commission Mosharraf Hossain and Director Abdul Mannan also spoke.

The British envoy said the number of terrorists in Bangladesh will not be even one percent of the total population. So, there is no scope to brand the country as a terrorist state.

He,however, said that the government should have taken actions against terrorists before.

Terming the terrorists as the enemies of people, he said it is very difficult to face the suicidal squad. He said minorities and ethnic groups must be protected from the attacks by the militants.
