Hearing on writs tomorrow

The High Court yesterday fixed tomorrow for hearing the writ petitions challenging the decision to prepare a fresh electoral roll by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and political appointment of staffs by the Election Commission secretariat. The HC bench comprising Justice MA Matin and Justice Rezaul Haque fixed the date after the government sought time. Deputy Attorney General Adilur Rahman Khan, on behalf of the government, sought time for taking preparations to hear the petitions. Three Awami League lawmakers -Abdul Jalil MP, Advocate Rahmat Ali MP, and Asaduzzaman Noor MP on Monday filed the writ petitions challenging the validity of the decision of preparing a fresh electoral roll by the CEC without taking consent of two other commissioners and appointment of staffs by the EC secretariat on political grounds. The petitions were scheduled to be heard yesterday.
