Shaheed Jewel XI win V-Day cricket

A blazing unbeaten century by Nadif Chowdhury powered Habibul Bashar-led Shaheed Jewel XI to a comfortable 64-run victory over Khaled Mashud-led Shaheed Mushtaque XI in the Victory Day limited-overs exhibition match at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Batting first Bashar's men stumbled to 45-5 in the 40-overs-a-side match in front of a jubilant crowd as new-ball-bowler Mahbubul Alam effected the early collapse picking up four wickets.

But Nadif joined Tushar Imran to repair the damages in a 92-run sixth wicket stand as the eventual winners amassed 249-7 in allotted 40 overs.

Tushar hammered a 57-ball 54 that featured eight boundaries while his younger partner Nadif cracked 12 fours and three sixes to hit 110 off 92 balls.

Enamul Haque Jr combined with fellow left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak Raj to wrap up the opponents' innings for 185 in 37.1 overs.

After Mohammad Ashraful's 60-ball 46 and Shahriar Nafees' 53-ball 40, former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud played a hurricane knock of 40 off 26 balls, but it could not salvage their side from going down massively.
