Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has let it be known that he would love to see Shearer delay retirement for another year after successfully persuading him to prolong his career for this season.

But Shearer told Saturday's Sun newspaper: "As far as I am concerned, nothing has changed. I will retire at the end of the season."

Shearer has made a sizeable impact this campaign, making 20 apearances for Newcastle and scoring eight goals to take him to just one behind Jackie Milburn's club record of 200.
