Death of 4 Children in Bauphal
Disease may be Viral Enkepalities


The 'mysterious' disease that killed four children and affected 20 people in a remote village in Bauphal upazila in 12 hours on Friday has been primarily identified as Viral Enkepalities, according to Patuakhali Civil Surgeon Dr. Nurun Nahar Begum.

More experiment is needed to ascertain the disease, she told rhis correspondent yesterday. There not been any fresh attack till yesterday noon, she added.

Two medical teams have been sent there, one led by Dr. Mazharul Islam, Senior Consultant of Medicine at Patuakhali General Hospital and the other by a health officer of Bauphal Upazila Health Complex, she said.

"We have sent a message to the Directorate of Health Department in Dhaka to send a team of experts immediately. They are scheduled to come tomorrow", she told this correspondent.

The death of fpur children including three of a family has created a panic among people in the area.

Symptoms of the disease are high temperature, vomiting and lose motion. The patient becomes very weak within hours of infection.
