A revolver with four bullets was recovered from his village home at Rajapur under Rupsha upazila.

The most wanted smuggler of south-western zone of the country was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Tuesday night at the Mirpur area in the capital. He was brought to Khulna on Wednesday night for interrogation in the Rab headquarters at Khalishpur.

A tailor by profession 20 years ago, Shamsu built up his fortunes through smuggling of arms, foodgrains, drugs and gold from India and Myanmar, sources said. But every time he was able to avoid legal action due to intervention and influence of his beneficiaries in the ruling party and the police department, sources added.

A godfather of terrorist Ershad Shikder, he used to sell arms to extremists. He was custodian of Ershad Shikder's arms, which are yet to be recovered, sources said.
