48 youths rescued from slavery
Staff Correspondent, Khulna
Coastguards of Mongla station rescued 48 youths on Monday from confinement at fishermen's colonies at Dublar Char, Alorkol, Shelachar and Narkelbaria. They were abducted from different districts of the country for serving as "slaves" under duress in the fishermen's colonies adjacent to the Sundarbans. According to coastguard sources, the rescued boys were never provided with proper food and shelter by their masters who mainly deal in "Shutki" (dry fish) in the coastal belts of the Bay of Bengal. Many of the boys were made victims of sodomy, said another reliable source. The rescued were sent to their respective home districts on Monday evening.
