Agreement with China to convert 34km rail track

The conversion work of 34 km metre gauge railway track into dual gauge from Gazipur to Dhaka will start soon to establish direct communication with the western part of the country.

An agreement to this effect was signed in Dhaka on Monday between the Bangladesh Railway and the Chinese First Metallurgical Construction Corporation.

Md Moslemuddin, chief engineer of Bangladesh Railway, and Jhau Ronow, chairman of the Chinese Corporation, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

Under the agreement, the project financed by the Bangladesh government will be completed in 14 months.
