Dhaka still in Eid hangover

The city has not yet regained its usual busy looks although the government offices resumed work yesterday after five days of Eid-ul-Azha and weekend holidays as most private offices and business houses are yet to start operation.

The presence at the government offices was quite low and most officials and employees spent the day by exchanging Eid greetings, embracing each other and idling.

Many seats and rooms at the secretariat were found empty because many officials are yet to join work as they took leave for some extra days along with the Eid holidays, according to sources.

However, most of the ministers and high officials attended office.

The major thoroughfares in the capital were free of crowd as many business houses and private offices would take some more days to start full operation. The passengers on public buses and mini buses were also very few.

The shivering cold weather also kept many, especially women and children, indoors.

Shutters of many shops in the city centre and commercial areas were down as shopkeepers and employees are yet to return from their village homes.

The city is likely to wear its usual look by next week.
