BNP man caught with pistol after firing 2 shots

Locals caught a district unit leader of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal with a homemade pistol as he opened fire on a leader of the transport workers' union yesterday afternoon.The people of Lalbagh area in the town handed over Abdul Hannan, joint secretary of Swechchhasebak Dal, a wing of the ruling BNP, to police. The police quoting the first information report (FIR) said Hannan fired two rounds at Shah Alam at around 5:30pm as the latter refused to pay him the toll of Tk 10,000, which Hannan had earlier demanded. The locals chased Hannan and caught him with the pistol. Eyewitnesses said Alam narrowly escaped any injuries. The police lodged a case with the Kotwali station under Speedy Trial Tribunal Act.
