Two cops sued for land grabbing bid

A woman yesterday filed a criminal case against two police officials including Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Turag Police Station and 10 others on charges of trespassing, intimidation, and damaging properties.

Lata Rahman of Bounia in the city filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court, Dhaka.

The accused are -- OC Nure Alam and Sub-Inspector (SI) Hassan Hafizur Rahman of Turag Police Station, Nazrul Haq, Lina Shahnewaz Parvin, Tayab Ali, Hassan Reza Khan, Masuda Khanam, Jakir Hossain, Zarina Begum, Shahmsuddin, Islam Uddin and Meaz Uddin.

In the case, Lata Rahman said that she along with two others have been in possession of 1.06 acre of land for a long time. But the accused Nazrul Haq and Lina made a forged power of attorney for grabbing the land last year.

The complainant then filed a criminal case with the CMM's Court against Nazrul and Lina in this regard. On hearing, the court directed both the parties to maintain a status quo on the land.

But violating the court order, Nazrul and Lina, in league with the OC and the SI, took possession of the land forcefully along with other accused at about 9:00pm on January 7. They broke the concrete boundary walls of the land and took away 12 pillars, she said.

When she went to Turag police to file a case in this regard, the OC and the SI used abusive words with her and threatened to implicate her in criminal cases. Moreover, they made arrangements for building houses on the land and damaged properties of about Tk 1.5 crore, the complainant added.

After hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mujibul Haq directed the deputy commissioner of police (North) to submit a report on the matter after an investigation.
