Mallika Sarabhai brings a festival to Delhi
Dancer Mallika Sarabhai, who runs the Ahmedabad-based Darpana Academy of Performing Arts along with her mother Mrinalini Sarabhai, recently brought the annual Vikram Sarabhai International Art Festival to the India Habitat Centre in Delhi.''We wanted to increase our audience base. Our work has a global perspective and it's only fair that we take it to the other cities.'' says Sarabhai, who intends to take the festival to the four metros and to Bangalore next year. The three-day festival in Delhi began on January 17. Apart from Sarabhai, the Indian brigade also has musicians L Subramaniam, Trilok Gurtu, the group Indian Ocean and poetry by Deepti Naval. The collaboration features artistes from Italy and Macedonia, among others. Compiled by cultural correspondent
