Four pipe guns recovered in Satkhira

Police yesterday recovered four pipe guns from a pond in Palashpole area, only 100 yards away from Satkhira stadium.

Acting on a tip-off, police recovered the weapons wrapped in a polybag from the pond owned by Dr Hadi Khan, an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The arms recovery from near the stadium ahead of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's visit to Satkhira has sparked concern in the administration. The prime minister is expected to fly to Satkhira tomorrow and her helicopter is scheduled to land at Satkhira stadium helipad.

Security has been beefed up in and around the stadium following the recovery of firearms, said the officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
