VDP man killed by UP member

A Village Defence Party (VDP) member was chopped to death by a group of armed miscreants in broad day light Tuesday morning. The victim is Shahjahan Sikder, 50, a VDP member of South Mithakhali village under Mathbaria upazila in Pirojpur district. Witnesses and family sources said Shahjahan had a longstanding land dispute with his cousin Md Yakub Ali, president of Mathbaria Sadar Union BNP. Yakub is also a Union Parishad (UP) member and his neighbour. Yakub and his accomplices forcibly harvested paddy cultivated by Shahjahan Monday night. On return from duty at 8 am on Tuesday, Shahjahan saw it and protested the act and engaged in altercation with Yakub and his men. At one stage Yakub and his men chopped him causing critical injuries.
