Saiful Islam, 40, of Purba Bong Kirat village of Ullapara upazila, was the vice-president of Ullapara upazila Awami League. He was also the chairman of Lahiri Mohonpur Union Parishad (UP).

Police sources said that a group of PBCP men shot Saiful on the platform of Lahiri Mohonpur Railway Station at around 6:30pm, when he was returning home from his UP office. The outlaws left the spot after making sure he was dead.

Being informed, Ullapara police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

People of the district are fearing more outlaw attacks after the news of the incident spread.

Superintendent of Police (SP) visited the spot soon after the incident.

A case was lodged with Ullapara Police Station.
