Six killed in road accidents

At least six people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Comilla, Bogra and Pirojpur yesterday.Our STAFF CORRESPONDENT from Chittagong reports: One person was killed and several passengers were injured in a road accident at the GEC intersection of Nasirabad in the port city yesterday. The accident occurred when a speeding bus of city special service turned upside down after one of its tyre bursts on CDA Avenue in front of Elite Paint factory at around 1:00pm, police and witnesses said. An unidentified person fell under the bus and died on the spot. Several passengers were also injured in the accident. Police seized the bus while its driver managed to escape. Our Correspondent from Comilla adds: One minor girl was killed in a road accident at Paruara area under Burichong upazila on Comilla-Sylhet road yesterday. The victim was unidentified as Bakul,7, daughter of Zakir Hossain of village Paruara under Burichong upazila. A Sylhet-bound bus coming from Comilla hit Bakul while she was crossing the road leaving her seriously injured. The girl was rushed to Dabidwar Health Complex where she succumbed to her injuries. UNB Bogra correspondent reported that three people were killed in two accidents in Sherpur upazila today. The dead were identified as Sohrab Hossain,40, of village Shiyali under Dhunat upazila, Abdul Hamid ,25, son of Jinnat Ali of village Laxmipur under Shajahanpur upazila in the district and Mafij Uddin ,48, son of Kutub Uddin, of Sutrapur in capital Dhaka. Police said a motorcycle skidded off the road into a ditch when a bus rammed into the bike in Shalfa area in Sherpur upazila at about 7:30am. Sohrab Hossain and Abdul Hamid, two motorbike passengers, were fatally injured. Hamid died on the spot while Sohrab died at Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital. In another accident, a goods-laden truck and a bus of Sundarban Courier Service collided head-on at Amtala on Bogra-Dhaka highway 5am. Mofij Uddin, the truck driver, died on the spot. UNB Pirojpur correspondent adds: Harun Hawlader, a rickshaw passenger, was killed when a truck hit the rickshaw from backside in Bhandaria upazila in the morning. Police rushed to the spot and seized the truck. But the truck driver managed to escape.
