On this day in 1988, police, at the directive of the then autocratic Ershad government, opened fire on the mass in a bid to foil a rally of Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina at Laldighi Moidan.

Gono Hatya Dibash Udjapan Commttiee organised a rally on Chittagong Mass-killing Monument premises.

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury attended the rally as chief guest with Prof Abu Yusuf Alam in the chair.

Awami League City Committee President MA Mannan, Bir Bahadur MP, CPB city unit General Secretary Mrinal Chowdhury and Workers Party leader advocate Abu Hanif addressed among others.
