Law enforcers are yet to recover the arms and ammunition looted by pirates from Haldibunia forest department camp in the Sundarbans on the night of December 16. Four forest guards were suspended on Monday for neglect to duty. Suspecting that the pirates might be hiding in the Indian portion of the Sundarbans, BDR at a flag meeting held on Saturday at the Zero Point on Kalindi river sought BSF help to recover the arms and arrest the pirates. BDR has proposed a joint drive with BSF in the Sundarbans, sources said. BDR Subedar Abdul Khaleq led the BDR team at the meeting. Sujoy Ghosh led the BSF side. "BSF assured us of cooperation", said Lt. Col. Golam Hossain of BDR when contacted. Talking to local journalists, Police Superintendent Abdur Rahim said a massive hunt is on by police, BDR and Coast Guard in the Sundarbans to nab the culprits and recover the arms. On contact, Assistant Conservator of Forest Rezaul Karim said Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mazharul Islam visited the spot on Monday and Chief Conservator of Forest Md Osman Gani is expected here soon. Wood cutters and honey collectors are not going into the Sundarbans fearing further attacks as neither the culprits have been arrested nor the looted arms recovered.
