PM opens BGFCL head office in B'baria today


Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will inaugurate the newly constructed head office of Bangladesh Gas Field Company Limited (BGFCL) in Brahmanbaria today. BGFCL is an organisation of Petrobangla.

The BGFCL complex has been built on 9.25 acres of land at Birashar along Brahmanbaria by-pass road at the cost of Tk 25. 61 crore.

The work was started in April 1999 with an estimated cost of Tk 25. 71 crore and completed on December last year.

The complex comprise one six stored head office, 13 four stored residential buildings, two four stored residential buildings for bachelor officials and one four stored rest house.

An educational institution named Brahmanbaria Gas Fields School and College ahas also been built on the campus.

BGFCL, the biggest gas field company under Petrobangia, has five gas fields under its control. These are 'Brahmanbaria Titas', Habiganj, Bakarabad, Narsingdi and Meghna.

There are 30 gas wells including 15 in Brahmanbaria Titas Gas Field, supplying 794 million cubic feet of gas a day. BGFCL is meeting 52 per cent of total demand for gas in the country and supplying 630 barrels of condensed petrol and diesel a day from its gas wells, saving a huge amount of foreign exchange annually, BGFCL sources said.

Sources in the district administration said the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the newly constructed Women's Hostel of Brahmanbaria Government College and address a public meeting at Neaz Mohammad High School ground.
