Plan to Bomb PM's Meet
'Mastermind' Jamaat leader dropped from case in Satkhira

Police have filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act accusing a man who was engaged to hurl bombs at the Prime Minister's public meeting scheduled for January 8 at Kalaroa, dropping the name of a Jamaat-e-Islami leader who allegedly engaged him. The meetinh was however rescheduled due to bad weather.

The accused person is Ruhul Quddus, son of Akkas Sardar of Alipur village in the Sadar upazila.

Police recovered two bombs from the house of Maulana Yunus Ali, a Rokon (leader) of Jamat at Alipur village and arrested his son Abdullah Al Mamun three hours ahead of the Prime Minister's scheduled arrival at Satkhira on January 8.

Police arrested Ruhul Quddus on January 16. During interrogation he told police that Maulana Yunus Ali engaged him to hurl bombs at the PM's public meeting. He also said that the Jamat leader also wanted to give him Tk 10,000 for this. But later he refused to do it.

When contacted, some local Jamaat leaders said Ruhul Quddus gave a false statement to police. This is a conspiracy against him, they claimed.
