Too tender to feel the loss

The fate of the two boys became uncertain with the death of their single parent mother who was burnt alive in a fire at the Bihari Camp in the city's Pallabi early yesterday.

The brothers--Akash, 6, and Emran, 7--lost their father three years back and yesterday lost the mother, Salma Begum, 28.

Locals said because of their tender age, the two boys--students at a madrasa in Demra--perhaps could not even realise what has happened. When they were shown the dead body of their mother, no reaction over their faces could be traced.

The ill-fated boys were at the madrasa at the time of the accident.

They said they know that their mother has died but did not seem to have realised what that means.

Apart from the mother, the two boys also lost their only three-year old sister Ria and two maternal uncles Mohammad Selim, 35, and Mohammad Kalim, 22. The two uncles used to look after the whole family.

They boys are now in the custody of their grandmother with an uncertain life ahead.
